QUESTION 1
CASE STUDY: Rhulani
Due: 21 May 2024
1.1 Investigate the challenges faced by individuals with albinism and discuss the
impact these difficulties can have on their daily lives.
Every day as seen in various communities, individuals with albinism encounter a range of
obstacles. Among these are discrimination, social isolation, and the heightened risk of skin
cancer. Those with albinism often endure disparaging comments and exclusion, sometimes
even being shunned by their communities. Moreover, the absence of protective melanin in
their skin puts them at increased vulnerability to skin cancer.
Education presents further challenges for individuals with albinism, particularly due to their
visual impairment. Many experience low vision, making it challenging to see classroom
materials such as whiteboards or small text. Consequently, their learning and class
participation may be hindered. Additionally, the emotional toll of discrimination and bullying
can negatively impact their academic performance and overall well-being.
The difficulties confronted by individuals with albinism profoundly affect their daily lives and
educational pursuits. Society must strive for greater empathy and acceptance toward them,
while also providing the necessary support and accommodations to facilitate their success
in all aspects of life.
