Safety and unsafety are implicit in every situation in life. Distinguish between safety and
unsafety as bases of safety risk. (10)
❖ Safety is a state or condition of being safe and,
therefore, it is the preferred or ideal state of living
Safety refers to being safe from harm or damage,
that is, being free from unsafe factors,
but this is not always possible.
❖ Unsafety is present when particular circumstances are unsafe, in other words, dangerous.
Unsafety presents a safety risk that exposes a person to harm and
property or the environment to damage.
Unsafety is indicative of circumstances
that present a threat to humans, property or the environment which can result in
adverse effects.

Validate the following statement “Stress in its different forms serves as a safety hazard” (6)
❖ Can cause psychological and phycological problems,
❖ Is a human psychological and physiological reaction to specific events or situations
encountered in life.
❖ Reaction of our mind and body to aggravating situations.
❖ Impact that disrupts the normal equilibrium.
❖ A human reaction to an attack; an experience of sustained psychological anxiousness that
follows on the experience of failure.
❖ People have or experience degrees of stress most of the time from different circumstances
and intrapersonal conflict and frequently leads to involvement in incidents.

❖ Compound safety hazards
Many things consist of mixtures of substances
Anything that comprises a combination or mixture of substances or elements is called a
compound safety hazard.
Compound safety hazards are substances or objects that are made up of or formed by at
least two or more single things natural elements.
Compound safety hazards form a single entity because the substances or elements are
integrated.
Contain the combined nature of the single safety hazards from which they are formed.
Examples of compound safety hazards include metal alloys, water, the human body,
paint, cigarettes and lipstick.
