DISNEY INTERVIEW QUESTIONS PRACTICE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS.
Have you reviewed the Disney Look, and are you okay with/willing to maintain it? Yes. I have uncolored hair, no tattoos, and my only piercings are standard ear piercings. Do you have any experience living with roommates? What are some conflicts you've had with your roommates, and how did you resolve these conflicts? (What are some potential conflicts, and how would you resolve them?) Yes! Academic environment: 2 Roommates in freshman yr. of college / & work environment: roommates during time at CBI (Tweaks Left w/Vanessa and Clarice 2018 & Tweaks Right with Bree 2019; Far & Away tents during Family Camp 2019) Roommate contracts (standards of respectful communication: no offense for reminders if room is messy, respecting privacy... "I love being around people, but I'm also an introvert by nature and really need alone time to recharge.") I would use roommate contracts again, being specifically conscious of establishing a precedent for open communication--so that it's okay to approach one another if a problem does come up Why do you want to do the Disney College Program (especially over any other internship)? I admire the Walt Disney Corporation for its dedication to excellence setting an example for how to create joyful, magical experience immersion--using all senses and creativity to create fully realized, magical experiences allowing all visitors, of all ages (even grown-ups!), the space/opportunity to engage with those things that are the most important parts of life: fun, play, imagination I think there is a lot of emotional disingenuousness nowadays (especially with young people)--people being sarcastic, people only doing something for social media, or even praising stress and anxiety (which I noticed at college all the time)--and I admire Disney for standing for something better... for creating places that are specifically designed for people to feel totally welcomed, at ease, and joyful. I want to be a part of making that a reality. Meeting people from all over the world What was your favorite job you've had and why? CCCDLS--music teacher using all my skills (creativity, lesson planning/educational programming, leading children, maintaining enthusiasm & commitment to keeping magical realms magical) Infusing learning with sense of magic/full immersion in adventures to places far beyond classroom (MMMB, Wings of Imagination, gnomes, Royal Rhythm Family, walking through the jungle, Carnival of the Animals) engaging children in educational experiences rooted in fun (setting a precedent for them to approach their learning with playfulness as they move beyond preschool) What was the most difficult part of your favorite job? CCCDLS--music teacher keeping children on task/stopping disruptive behavior while still being kind & understanding and maintaining enthusiasm to keep those children who are behaving on task Tell me about a time you had a difficult guest interaction and how you handled it? That night with Nathaniel as my only bellman (on his second night of the job)... prioritizing to decrease wait time as much as possible; following up with guests to provide updates & apologize for delays missing scooter from ScooterBug / lost luggage - no-strings goody bag / rain & 101 Molly wanting to quit music lessons?? Problems with pay system at Auntie Mama's Women's Weekend guests were frustrated by the fact their tents weren't what they'd been expecting. I offered them extra pillows & personally delivered blankets to their tents before the evening came. Then, I reported the situation to my manager, and I checked up on the guests in the morning at breakfast to ensure that they were more comfortable & to assure them that I was there if they needed anything else. Tell me about a time you handled an emergency. Calling 911 for crying baby at FQ Seeing little girl walking on the street calling out her brother's name & helping her find her way back home (told Mom--because I was a teen--and walking with her to her house) When Casey locked us out of the house during playtime outside (he got upset, crying, I didn't know what was wrong/if he was okay)--sent the older two children to other side of lawn, talked calmly & kindly but sternly through the door until he unlocked it, told him that his behavior wasn't okay once I saw him face-to-face How would you handle an emergency? Reacting calmly and rationally (so that the people hurt or in the emergency situation wouldn't panic) Make sure that everyone involved was in physically safe space first (clearing the area around hurt individuals, getting people to safe areas); assess situation (see if person/people just needed a little breathing room, or further assistance/aid), call in back-ups (superiors, 911, medics, etc.) How would you handle giving the same instructions or spiel over and over again? I actually had to do this at CBI! I was in charge of teaching kayaking session during the skills rotation... had to teach same lesson to many different groups over the course of the summer (multiple school groups, campers, adults, and families) & often over and over throughout the course of one day (especially for the days local school groups would visit) I kept it interesting but customizing to each group (connecting to people's clothing--"The red kayak, like this young man's shirt.") Simple, but helpful Remember that, even if I've done it 100 times, the people I was interacting with was experiencing my lesson for the first time. I had to be conscious to maintain the same levels of clarity of instructions and enthusiasm ...and this translates to Disney, too, of course! When a person comes across me/my spiel, it could be their first (and maybe their only) experience there... and I want to make that experience every bit as wonderful for them as for the first person who ever heard my spiel. It's not about me; it's about the guests & their experience. How do you feel about/do you mind working in all weather conditions (Florida heat & cool air conditioning) and being on your feet all day? I don't mind. Reference CBI & Auntie Mama's Have you handled cash in your former jobs? Yes, while working with Auntie Mama's Some jobs may require some heavy lifting; are you okay with that? Yes. Reference helping Dad move instruments for the Britt Are you comfortable swimming/being in the water? I'm comfortable being in the water. While I wouldn't specifically call myself a super strong swimmer, I am comfortable in the water & was trained at CBI to swim in cold water, correctly fit life jackets, kayak (on the lake & in ocean), and I learned some basic life-guarding techniques (helping someone to shore if they're struggling/can't stay above water) Are you comfortable cleaning, even when it might be really gross? Yes. Reference cleaning Marilyn's house + CBI (Gronk sinks, dishwashing, cleaning biffies & flushies, cleaning camper tents, cleaning Far and Away Tents--spiders, dust, pollen, scrubbing, etc.) For Bibbidy Bobbidy Botique: How would you handle a little girl who's shy about getting her hair & make-up done? Try to establish comfort one-on-one (help them ease discomfort being the center of attention/"all eyes on them"). In my experience working with young children, they are most responsive when they feel respected/not like they're being talked down to... So, I'd talk directly to the child (not to parents or guardians) at their eye-level... ask them friendly questions about who they are, their interests, their journey to Disneyland, their favorite characters, what they're planning to do that day, etc. If they don't want to talk, I'll show talk to them about characters I "know," show them my supplies, etc. One of the only places at Disney were you get 30-45 minutes to be just with one child... create a truly magical moment, where they feel safe and valued. I would focus on fostering this to Tell us about your favorite Disney character, movie, etc. Princess & the Frog (all characters change & grow, fabulous music, Tiana inspires me) Snow White (original, beautiful animation, complete story arch) Summer Magic (Haley Mills, beautiful music, tradition of watching it every year after school ended) Which Disney character are you most like? Tiana takes initiative, ambitious, dreams big, doesn't let anything get in the way of her goals; sometimes struggles with working too hard/caring too much... her ending inspires me to remember to take time to enjoy the process/journey of getting to your dream/final destination... find the love, the joy, and the little adventures along the way What are you most looking forward to during your DCP? One-on-one interactions with guests/facilitating an experience that will endure as memories long after they've left (like the ones I have of Disneyland!); meeting people with similar passions to my own Why do you want to do the Disneyland program? Why do you want to do the Disneyworld program? Which program do you prefer? I would be honored to work in either. Disneyland: living in the area of the country I want to live/near family; connecting to my favorite childhood place.... There is something extra special about Walt's original park, a place that was the first realization of his dream of creating a place where people of all ages could engage in play and magical experiences Disneyworld: plentiful opportunities for roles aligned with my interests (BBB, Children's activities, Character Performer/Attendant) What can you offer the Walt Disney Company?
