A portfolio allows a student to demonstrate learning through performance-based assessments, which can provide additional information that a standardized test cannot. A portfolio can show more complex thought processes, such as synthesis and analysis through writing and art. Gifted students in heterogeneous groups the gifted students should participate in heterogeneous groups because they are seen as friendlier and better leaders, which boosts their social-emotional outlook and self-esteem.
