OTITIS MEDIA Assessment: Acute Otitis Media Pharmacologic: 1. Amoxicillin 750 mg BID for 7 days. Amoxicillin is a first line therapy for children who have no allergy to penicillin and have a low risk of beta lactam resistance. Most common pathogens are Streptococcus pneumoniae, Hameophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis (Rosenthal & Burchum, 2018, p. 1016). 2. Ibuprofen 150mg q 6 hours for pain and fever. Ibuprofen is a NSAID that works as an analgesic (non-opioid) and antipyretic (Rosenthal & Burchum, 2018, p. 857). 3. Tylenol (Acetaminophen) 240mg q 4-6 hours alternating with Ibuprofen to reduce fever and pain. Tylenol is an analgesic (non-opioid) and antipyretic (Rosenthal & Burchum, 2018, p. 863). Non Pharmacologic. 1. Increase fluid intake to increase hydration due to fever (McCance & Huether, 2015, p. 127). 2.
