AC1.2 Explain the reason that certain crimes are unreported.
Honour Killings/Honour Crime:
The reasons that honour crime/honour killings are underreported is for some personal
reasons, such as fear because the victims might be afraid and concerned that there will
be reprisals if they report their abusers, because the victim normally have a stretch link
to the offenders because they are her family they might also fear of the potential
consequences against them. Another personal reasons can due due shame, the victims
in honour crime typically believe they have done something wrong or are ashamed to
admit they have been victims of physical abuse, they might not want to admit that such a
crime has happened because of how it makes them feel or how it makes them appear to
their communities, a social reason because Honour crime is unreported is because the
lack of knowledge around it, the victims are sometimes isolated from the world and may
not know that a particular action is against the law so they might consider not report it.
Also because lack of media interest, the media in rare occasions touch the subject of
honour crime because is a really sensitive topic (they can be subject of being racist or
judgemental for example) so if the media don't sensitise their audiences to a given
crime, the public is less likely to be vigilant or anxious about it and its less likely to notice
it and report it if they do which produce another social reason as lack of public interest.
But the main reason of Honour crime being underreported is due cultural reasons, to be
more specific due cultural bond crimes, because the UK is a multicultural society, it have
a range of different cultural and ethnics groups with different belief and cultural practices,
some of these belief or practices are against the law. In the case of honour crime some
members of the communities affected may not see the crime as something negative and
will not report it because it's “their traditions” and ways to handle things. For those
outside the community may feel that they should not interfere in other cultures.
Hate Crimes:Hate crimes commonly are underreported due personal reasons such as

would could encourage other offenders to offend them. Another reason could be due

report it to try to hide it (in the case of homosexuality, for example), a personal reason
that often is present at the moment of report a hate crime is that the individual that
witness it it’s not affected by it. If someone sees a hate crime but doesn’t have any
protected characteristics, they might feel they are not affected by it and choose not to
