4. Defne the concept mediation of dea ning (4)
The mediaton of learning process is the process of facilitatng learning whereby a learner is
helped to reconstruct their own body of knowledge to incorporate a new piece of
knowledgen skill from the public body of knowledge. It is an actve process and facilitators
encourage this cognitve change by providing stmulatng actvites that refect the real world
experiences. Learning happens through experience and is personaln so it’s not possible for an
educator to transfer knowledge from their mind to the learners. Howevern social learning
and social negotaton are part of the mediaton of learning process.

Group work allows learners to take responsibility for their own learning. Because they are
not relying on the educatorn and sometmes are relied upon by other learnersn they take
charge of their own learning. This is a vital part of becoming a lifelong learner and an actve
partsan in the democratc society. Learners also have to work with other people who may
be diferent from themselves. This helps to show them that the diferences between them
and other people are valuable and help us solve problems (two heads are beter than one).
Learners have to learn to work with other people because working with other people is part
of life. Learners also have to learn to respect other peoplen and the diferencesn and this
social skill can be developed through group work. Group work also teaches other life skillsn
such as leadershipn communicaton and planning which are vital to any student. Group work
is an actve processn whereby learners are actvely involved in their own learning and thus
beneft from the learning experience more.
