1.Students using more of their native language than
English:

The younger the students are the more likely they will be to speak
their native language. They might even speak in pairs or in small
groups and paying no attention to the lesson taking place.

Solution:

No ESL or Tefl class are the same: Different targets and goals have
been set for each class; however, it is imperative and important that
students understand that under all circumstances they have to
speak English even it be just greeting or asking a question or saying
a statement no matter what level they are at or what age they are.

Create a game: It would be a lot more interesting and attention
capturing if the lesson is turned into a game. It would also be
helpful to create a chart with a list of all student's names. Where
students who are speaking English are rewarded with a star or they
are allowed to draw or colour in next to their name. This will
motivate the other learners to speak English all the time allowing
them the same reward. Also for the students who are repeatedly
speaking in their native language create a penalty system and if they
have exceeded 3 penalty points they have to say a poem in front of
$12.22
