Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Xi Eta) with Certified Solutions When was the Xi Eta chapter chartered at Georgia Southern? January 6th, 1979 What are the five programmatic thrust? Economic Development Educational Development Physical and Mental Health Political Awareness and Involvement International Awareness and Involvement When was Delta Sigma Theta founded? January 13, 1913 Where was Delta Sigma Theta founded? Howard University in Washington, D.C. How many women founded Delta Sigma Theta? 22 collegiate women What service projects/programs are you aware of that this chapter is currently conducting in your community on campus and now can you contribute to the success of these projects/programs? I have seen this chapter conduct service at the First United Methodist Soup Kitchen and Habitat for Humanity's House Building Project. The way I believe I could help is by simply lending a hand. Listening to instruction doing everything I can to get the job done. The more hands on deck the faster a community can be helped. Delta Sigma Theta has advocated for law and policies to sustain and expand the civil rights since our founding in 1913. Tell me a time you engaged in social action. The several times I have engaged in social action include protesting for the Black Lives Matter movement during the Covid-19 pandemic following the death of George Floyd. I believe the best way to get a clear message across is by action. I made sure to get out and gather all my family and friends to protest for an important cause that affects all African Americans. When we come together and unite we can really bring justice to the world. Tell me about a situation where you took initiative and went beyond the expectations of your team or community to assist in achieving a goal. I remember just recently in July when I was at my church's community outreach program distributing food, our team got a call that there was a family that had just lost everything and they had no way of making their way to us. So I made sure to load up on a couple food baskets in my car and head their way to drop off food myself. The next day when I learned they had a daughter I made sure to gather all my clothes I couldn't fit and I gave it to the family. I wanted to do all I could to help and if I had no use for the clothes then I would rather give it to someone in need? We all make mistakes we wish we could take back. Tell me about a time you wish you had handled a situation differently and how or if you corrected it. One time would be about few year ago when I working with my with one of my colleagues. At the time I was apart of the military funeral honors in which we honor men and women who have served and give them a proper burial. Long story short he and I got into a dispute about something very small and ended up arguing in front of the funeral home. Not my finest hour at all. What I wish I would've done was just walk away. There was no reason for us to be as inappropriate as we were. From that point on I have made sure to just walk away. If things cannot be solved in a decent manner then I just need to remove myself. What Delta events or activities have you attended that influenced your desire to become a Delta and what made these events or activities so impactful to you? I was at Down with the Deltas, I witnessed pie a Delta, I was at the organization fair and I attended the NPHC fall convocation and I have always felt such warm energy. My heart feels at peace whenever I would talk to any member and I never feel excluded in any way. I can absolutely feel the genuine connection of sisterhood. I believe I enjoyed most is seeing so many smiling faces through every event. I am always continuously trying improve myself and trying to get my life together and studying for the next test that sometimes I forget to take a moment to breath, have fun and enjoy the moment. Name four current national programs of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and state the contribution they have made to the community and/or nation. Social action: This chapter specifically hosts events on campus like voter registration drives to help individuals find out their registration status or register to vote and more Sisterhood: This sorority does bonding events such as participating and hosting activities during homecoming, down with the deltas, Christmas party Service: This sorority does their service by helping out within the community. Specifically giving back to the black community by doing projects like Habitat for Humanity Scholarship: This sorority has been able to raise a lot of money by doing different fundraisers. This chapter hosted pie a delta and raised money for the children of AIDS victims in South Africa Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a service organization. Tell me about a time you have actively provided service in your community to impact others. Just about every time I go up to my hometown. I love going to church and staying whenever to help out with my church's outreach program. We host food drives, clothing drives, blood drives. We also feed men and women in nursing homes as well. I also took a semester off of school last year to help the men and women of Louisiana who were negatively impacted by the hurricane. It warmed my heart to help families who were so absolutely grateful to receive fresh water, food and tarps. Tell me about a time when you felt like a good leader and why. A time I felt like a good leader is whenever I am at my military site working. A lot of times we are assigned to do different tasks and sometimes people don't understand their task or are able to get it done without help. So I always like to walk around and help others when I can. Most times we have down time so I try to form positive connections with people. It makes people feel like I care in which I do. Tell me about a time when you experienced conflict with a peer and how the situation was resolved. I experienced conflict with a peer some years ago when I first started going to college. She and I were doing group work and disagreeing on several issues. Instead of building up anymore animosity I decided to really listen to her opinion for once and try to understand where she was coming from. Turns out we just had to find a common middle ground and hear each other out instead of coming for each other's throats. Over the years I have truly valued communication because it is very important in every relationship What do you think are the most challenging issues African Americans face today and how could the chapter address these within Delta's five-point programmatic thrust? Some of the things that African Americans suffer from include racism, incarceration, employment , educational attainment and the list can go on Economic Development: This chapter has done many financial literacy classes to help promote understanding of money and has provided helpful tips and tricks as to how to budget effectively Educational Development: This chapter could host classes and open them to the public on the different issues such as racism and the economy because not everyone has knowledge about things that don't necessarily affect them or their families Physical and Mental Health: This chapter has done a fitness class and exercise has been proven to aid with stress, anxiety or depression. This chapter can also do yoga classes, dance classes or a fun and light basketball game. Political Awareness and Involvement: Ways that this chapter could help within this programmatic thrust is making sure to protest and get people to vote or register to vote. It is important to touch on how important an individual's vote is International Awareness and Involvement: I have seen this chapter host classes such as Diva flights, trips to Kenya, and over all world tours to help raise awareness of the things that occur in Africa and the countries within such as Kenya and then places such as Haiti.
