Meiosis

Meiosis is a process that cells go through to create gametes for sexual reproduction. DNA
replication will happen once followed by two divisions. The daughter cells have half as many
chromosomes as their parent cells because they are haploid, whereas the parent cell is
diploid.

Chromosomes

These are long thread-like structures found in the nuclei. Chromosomes form a part of the
chromatin network.
They consist of a DNA strand wrapped around a histone protein.
Cells in organisms contain 46 chromosomes, with the paternal chromosome coming from the
father and the maternal chromosome coming from the mother, making them diploid cells(2n) ,
with 23 pairs of homologous chromosomes.
A homologous pair is formed when a paternal chromosome matches a maternal chromosome,
ensuring the same size, shape, and genes. However, human X and Y chromosomes pair with
one another. XY= Male and XX=Female
DNA replication is crucial during cell division to guarantee that each daughter cell receives the
complete genetic material complement.

Note:
2 chromatids= 1 chromosome
two matching chromosomes make up a homologous pair.
A bivalent = pair of homologous chromosomes in close contact with each other.
haploid=cells that have ONE set of chromosomes
diploid=cells that have TWO sets of chromosomes (2n)
