Unit 1 Controlling Hazards & Risks in the Workplace Assignment 2

Moving onwards to the next section, which is describing methods used to identify
hazards in a working environment. I have selected 5 different methods of identifying a
hazard, which are:
- Identifying Hazards - This includes finding all the situations that could lead
to harm to people in the area. The methods of which that can identify hazards
in a workplace are inspecting the workplace & observing how the works tasks
are laid out. Also, informing other employees about any health & safety
difficulties they have faced when doing their work.
- Risk Assessments - These assessments are required as it is a regulation of the
Work Health & Safety Regulations (WHS) 2012 for highly risked activities,
like electrician work. The ways to assess a risk is by considering 3 main
points, which are, knowing how severe the possible harm caused by a hazard
is, know how hazards may cause harm & acknowledging the possibility of
harm happening.
- Statements from Staff - Talking with other employees in the area about any
hazard will certainly reduce the risk of anyone getting harmed as they will be
using machines or will have more knowledge on its functions & safety.
- Keeping Records - This’ll help in representing possible compliance with
WHS; &for the employer, it’ll support him/her to monitor the health & safety
performance of their company.
- Task Analysis - This allows management of employee's tasks using an
accurate analysis. Furthermore, task analysis is the process of observing the
workers in action to know in exactly how they perform their tasks & reach
their planned goals, while also learning about them. It also helps see if there
are any risks or hazards from each step of the work that the employer is doing
& be able to reduce or eliminate the risk or hazard by ensuring the employee
operates their part of the job in a more efficient way.

In conclusion, without even 1 of these methods, it’ll make risks & hazards even
more likely to occur as well as the employees or whoever that is near the hazard
will have a greater chance of getting harmed.
