In this assignment I will be explaining how motivational theories may be relevant to my chosen
company (Debenhams), and also compare the way different techniques are used to motivate
different employees.
Theory: Frederick Herzberg
Example of how the theory is used in Debenhams
Herzberg’s methods of using job satisfaction were used as motivators based on his theory
because the staffs have the right to include promotion, responsibility and hygiene factors, such
as: decent working conditions.
This is relevant to Tesco because they are all motivators for the workers at the business. For
example, if the business has good working conditions; workers will feel pleasant to work. This is
because their area is respected and kept decent.
The types of workers at Tesco that may be suitable for this method are workers who will be
there for the long-term. This is because they have to go into the same environment every day
and work. Also, after working many years for Tesco they are entitled to a promotion for
