Employability, personal and communicaton ssills
In this assignment I have been asked to describe the main employability, personal and
communicaton skills required when applying for a specifc job role, he specifc job I have
chosen is a retail sales assistant at Miss Selfridges, as a sales assistant, they need help
customers and play an important role in making their shopping experience enjoyable. They
could work in all kinds of retail outlets, including supermarkets, clothing retailers and
department stores.
Employability Ssills
Suitable qualifiatins:
Most employers will be more interested in a person’s 'people skills' and positve attude
than their formal qualifcatons. But they will consider me if they see that I have Math’s,
English Language and ICT.
Experienie in similar rile:
They will be at an advantage when applying for retail jobs if they have experience of
working with the public and of handling cash. Many stores recruit temporary staf at busy
tmes such as Christmas, and this can be a good way of getng experience that can lead to a
permanent job. I did some part tme work as a sales assistant at my friend’s aunts Baby
Boutque for 2 weeks in the summer.
Kniwledge if Priduits/Serviies:
Product knowledge is key to providing good customer service. I have a basic knowledge of
cat walk trends, high street trends, what looks good, what don’t look good and dress
personally quite fashionable.
Experienie in speiifi industry:
An employee who is able to work consistently to the standards required the organizaton,
will be valued by the employer. Employers will want to employ people with high
professional standards. Standards are ofen drawn up by organisatons that represent
diferent professions and members need to agree to follow those standards when they are
working, but unfortunately I have no experience in the Retail industry.
Personal Ssills
Patent:
I’m patent because I’m not one them people who lack patence will jump into decisions
without frst checking whether it is the right one for them. They rush about expending
valuable energy and wastng tme which isn’t good if you want to have any job in the retail
industry. They make everything so much harder because without a defnite plan to follow
you are wastng your tme and the company’s team.
