Unit 29 P4 M3 D2 Health and Social Care

P4 - Explain the contribution of psychological perspectives to the
management and treatment of two specific behaviours:

In this assignment I will explain how the psychological perspectives contribute to the
management and treatment of my two specifically chosen behaviours. The two
behaviours which I chose are the phobias and fears.

I believe that approach which suits phobias and fears is the psychodynamic and the
humanistic approach. The psychodynamic approach could treat the anxiety and
depression in the therapies like hypnosis.

The use of hypnosis means that the individual
who has phobias and fears of something e.g.
dark, they are going to be hypnotised into
thinking that they are no longer scared of the
dark. This gives the individual to overcome their
fear of dark. This approach could help those
who are suffering with these issues.

The reason why people have phobias and fears
is because they could’ve had an accident in their
childhood which could’ve affected the way they
see particular things. There are many phobias
and fears which people might have, one of the examples could be Mysophobia, and
this is the fear of germs. Usually the person who mysphobia, they are going to try and
avoid the contact with germs as much as possible. Another common phobia might be
the fear of dogs. This is also usually because something has happened in their
childhood, e.g. they’ve been bitten by a dog when they were young and now they are
going to be afraid to come near one at all. This potentially is linked with the
psychodynamic approach as it is focused on the emotions and feelings of the
individual and what could be the reason behind the individual is feeling the way they
do.

In the similar way the humanistic approach could help to treat the individual who is
experiencing phobias or fears. The humanistic approach is focused on the individual’s
behaviour. This could determine what has caused the individual to feel the way they
do. The approach could give those who are suffering with phobias and fears an
opportunity to overcome them.

The humanistic approach could determine the reason why people have fears and
phobias. There might be people who have fears because of the traumatic experience
they might have been through.

When it comes to the humanistic approach, the individual who is experiencing the
phobias and fears could talk to a psychologist/therapist and they are going to be
able to help them determine the reason why they have these fears and phobias.

This P4 task should never have passed. Phobias is fine but fears are not a behaviour in the specification.
