Task 1 (P9)
Finding the enthalpy change of combustion of different fuels

Aim: to see how different fuels give different amounts of energy

Abstract: In this experiment, we aimed to see how different types of fuels, would emit
different amounts of heat, and how each one used more or less amount of the specific fuel,
we also saw how they all ended up one after the other in terms of joules that they transmited
in the heat, to heat up the water, in a conclusion where hexan was the one that had more
energy.

Equipment:
● Clamp
● Stand
● Thermometer
● Liquid fuels in in spirit burners
● Draught shield
● Metal calorimeter
● Water
● Lighter or matches
● Weighting scale
● 100ml or 500ml beaker

Procedure:
1. First we set up all the equipement, by attarching the clamps to the stand, in a way
that the metal calometer can be above the spirit burner, and it has about 2 cm room
away from each other, we also arrached another clamp, with the thermometer, in a
way that the thermometer doesent touch the bottom of the metal calometer.
2. The metal calometer is filled with 100ml of water, wich we mesured with a beaker,
and than attached to the clamp, of the stand set up.
3. Before begining, all the fuels, in the spirit burner where mesures, in the weighting
scale, and the values where recorded in a table.
4. Before starting, i also wrote down the temperature of the water before starting in the
tamble.
5. Once everything is set up in place, we can now light the spirit lamp that is placed
under the metal calometer.

6. At this point we will kee an eye on the water, when it starts to boil and vapour
apperars, we stopped the spirit lamp from burning, and straigt after mesured the
weight in the scale, and again write down the value, also the temperature of the
water in the thermometer.
