1.1 Oriëntatie
De huid (cutis) is het grootste orgaan. Bestaat uit vel en speciale structuren zoals nagels,
zoolkussens en de neusspiegel.
1.2 Functies van de huid
Bescherming
Zorgt voor scheiding tussen lichaam en buitenwereld en dat er geen nuttige
stoffen het lichaam verlaten. Biedt bescherming tegen invloeden van buitenaf.
Lichaamstemperatuur
Houdt warmte vast in de kou d.m.v. isolatie en in de warmte/bij inspanning zorgt
het voor afkoeling door te zweten.
Signalen
In de huid liggen zenuwen die druk, temperatuur en pijn waarnemen.
Voeding
Wordt gebruikt als opslagplaats van reservestoffen. Vetweefsel is onder andere
energievoorraad. De huid maakt zelf ook voedingsstoffen aan, vitamine D onder
invloed van zonlicht.

Bestaat uit:
Opperhuid (epidermis)
o Kiemlaag (stratum basale/stratum germinativum)
Snel delende cellen>schuiven door naar boven>vernieuwen. Produceert
keratine, ondoordringbaar eiwit. Bevat ook pigmentcellen.
o Hoornlaag (stratum corneum)
Slijt af om schadelijke stoffen en ziektekiemen te
verwijderen>huidschilfers. Snellere vorming dan afsterving zorgt voor eelt.
Cyclus van kiem- naar hoornlaag en afsterven duurt ongeveer 20 dagen bij
honden.
