Harold Fry (H)
1) H is 65 years old.
2) Recently retired and he has not much to do.
3) Lives with wife, Maureen, and memories of his dead son (David)
4) Focuses on regrets and doesn’t live in the moment
5) Memories and regrets clash when letter from Queenie Hennessy arrives
6) She helped him through a tuff time in his life
7) He writes a letter to her but feels its insignificant, to what he wants to say.
8) His mother:
a) Left him when he was very young
b) Never got over it
9) Father:
a) Alcoholic
b) Kicked H out on 16the Bday
10) H feels parents gave him poor start (not good father or husband).
11) Can’t convey his love in a way that his wife or son understood.
12) Feels his partly to blame for son's suicide
13) Alone on road discovers he is happy.
14) Enjoys listening peoples stories and “carries” them with him.
15) Hates been center of attention.
16) Hopes his sacrifice helps Q recover but will be willing to accept Q's death
17) Learns accept self and to live more, rather than living in past.
18) Cried at the end of journey but he is newly equipped begin a new phase of his life with
Maureen.
