Definitions (according to Oxford English Discovery):
- Experiment: "Action of trying anything or putting it to proof: a test, trial" "An a
or operation undertaken in order to discover something unknown, to test a hypot
or establish or illustrate some known truth.
- Behavioural experiment: planned activities, based on experimentation or observ
which are undertaken by patients in or between cognitive therapy sessions. It's a
cognitive therapy intervention.

Behavioural experiments (BE):
- Designs are derived from a cognitive formulation of the problem.
- Main purpose is to gain new information which can help:
§ Test the validity of the patients' existing beliefs about themselves, oth
and the world. This is how some of the problems are maintained.
§ Construct and/or test new, more adaptive behaviours.
§ Contribute to the development and verification of the cognitive
formulation.
- Other ways we can explore cognition and try and influence change? Challenging
thoughts via Socratic dialogue.

Types of behavioural experiments:
Hypothesis testing vs discovery
Hypothesis testing:
- Hypothesis A vs hypothesis B.
- A: people look at me because I blush too much.
- B: people look at anyone entering the room.

Discovery experiments:
- What happens if I do X.
- Example: "What would happen if I tell people about myself/thoughts and feeling
Active vs observational:
- Client takes an active role.
- Client is observing events or gathering already available evidence.

Implementing behavioural experiments:
Preparation phase:
- Plan them collaboratively.
- Client should understand the rationale of the experiment. Should be included in
