Unit 2 – Task 1
Confidentiality
In health and social care confidentiality means that we do not share
without permission information that has been entrusted to us. This
also includes not sharing personal information about users of the
services with friends, family or other individuals outside the setting, or
chatting about work in public places.
The rules of confidentiality are-
 Not discussing one individual with another.
 Not sharing written information without permission.
 Secure storage of records, including those stored electronically.

Breaching confidentiality
There may be occasions when confidential information must be shared,
for example, if an individual was at risk of being harmed or of harming
another person.
All health and social care settings have procedures that must be
followed regarding the breeching of confidentiality. There is a clear
difference between following a procedure that would mean informing
the manager or senior member of staff on duty and then also telling a
friend.
Dignity
Health and social care workers must protect the dignity of each
individual by being aware of situations and actions that could cause
embarrassment and make the individual feel silly or exposed.
For example, we should never stare at an individual or expose parts of
their body any more than is really necessary.
