The mark scheme
The mark scheme for this assessment uses the UG generic assessment
Essay aiming for higher mark:
• clear focus (on the question)
• Clear/convincing argument
• Engagement with relevant literature
• A well-presented structure
The word count
Break down into sections: go more into this, how?
How to feasibly argue wishing the word limit
- narrow parameters
- one/two case studies
What is the most important point, and why is it more important than other issues?
Incorporation the literature
The quality of sources rather than quantity is what counts
Fine to mix sources (academic and grey) but stil need to evaluate (think critical analysis doc)
Use the literature e ectively to demonstrate argument
Don’t just put what authors say (descriptive) analyse what they say (maybe put them in conversation
with each othr or group them,) focus on themes ?
Analyse what they say
Often useful to group types of focus/argument (ei by theme or approach)
Explain how what they say is relevant/ critiqued in your argument (dont just cherry pick! Take into
account their full arguments)
