Assignment 6 – What to do Include the work you studied and write on through the year (including Assignment 3) to complete your final research portfolio. Task 1: Submit to Turnitin to ensure you have a low similarity score (below 30%). Each portfolio will be individually looked at to ensure that the research done is your own work. If students have copied and pasted or used ‘patchwriting’, it will be noted in the marking process. After Turnitin have indicated your score: o Download your receipt and attach as Appendix C. o Indicate your score on the Title Page. 30 marks will be deducted if: o the % is not indicated in the assignment on the Title page, o you did not submit to Turnitin, or o the % is more than 30%. Note: do not wait until a day or two before the submission date to upload to Turnitin, as there might be technical issues or just too many students that want to access Turnitin and generate reports. Table of Tables Table of Figures Section 3: Introduction This section provides an introduction to your research (½ page). Here you introduce the topic you are focussing on and the context in which you plan to study the topic. Section 4: Background Provide some insight on the background of your research (½ page). Introduce the key issues and themes that have emerged from the literature you have read. Focus on the knowledge gaps and problems that others have highlighted. Also introduce the methodologies that others have used in their research. Section 5: Problem statement • Problem statement (+/- five sentences) – Based on what you have read from the previous sections, articulate the problem issues you are focussing on. • Research question – Articulate the main research question. This should align with the title. • Research sub-questions (two or three sub-questions that align with the main research question). For each of these questions, articulate a purpose statement, e.g. ‘The purpose of this question is to …’. • Research objectives – each of these should align with the sub-questions. • Research deliverables (expected outcomes) – if you answer the research questions and address the objectives, how do you expect the reader will benefit? Section 5 should not be longer than 1 ½ pages. Section 6: Literature review Populate the literature review section: 1. Introduction – explain the approach you followed to do the literature review and the key themes you used to do searches on Google Scholar and the library website (½ page) 2. Define the topic of interest and what you will focus on (½ page) 3. Discuss some of the main themes emerging from the literature. 4. Explain the importance of focussing on and studying this topic according to literature (1 page) 5. Summarise your review of literature in some sort of framework, diagram, or narrative (½ page) to show the relevance of your topic. 6. In order to confirm your research questions for the reader, elaborate on the possible gap(s) you identified (1 page) and how your research will overcome this gap(s). 7. Conclusion (½ page) Section 6 should not be longer than four pages. Section 7: Methodology • Give a short overview and references regarding different methodologies. • Give an indication of which methodology you will use for your study. Explain why this methodology is most appropriate (how to do it will left for later). o Discuss the methodology of choice o Discuss data that will be collected (this should relate to the conceptual framework and literature from previous sections) o Sources of data and participants (who are the participants from whom you are going to get data from and why are they the most appropriate for doing so) o Data collection method (e.g. interviews, questionnaires, observation, measurement, etc.) o Data treatment (or data analysis) o Discuss ethics requirements according to Unisa, School of Computing Section 8: Contribution of your research Section 9: Conclusion Section 10: Reference list (40 or more references). Section 11: Appendices Tips: o Always support all claims with good, credible references o Remember to add the Title Page to your Portfolio o Make sure you have enough time to complete the Portfolio – research takes longer than you think. o Remember to submit on Turnitin. o Turnitin may take up to 36 hours to provide the report.
