A risk management process is a way of identifying, treating and then managing risks as an

In a Forest School environment, risk management is about safeguarding the participants in
the sessions by conducting risk assessments and a daily dynamic risk assessment of the
intended site.
One of the key ideas at Forest School is to actively facilitate risk taking behaviour with its
participants.

Recently it has been suggested that depriving children of these risks, may be detrimental for
them in later life. Living a life devoid of risks doesn’t allow children to develop and enhance
their own understanding and management of risks. This may endanger individuals when
encountering risks throughout their life.
Risk taking both in life and at Forest School enables participants to strike a happy medium.
By not being ignorant of risks, putting people in danger through negligence. However, there
is a need to be less over the top and wrapping children in cotton wool. It all relates to
managing the risks.
