Dependent Child - Child without proper parental care or control, subsistence, education as required by law. Five steps of Juvenile Court Proceedings - 1. referral- investigated by local police agency, case referred to county juvenile probation office 2. Petition- after PC is established for committing a crime it is filed with juvenile probation office 3. Informal Hearing- held when Child is in detention within 72hrs. (Also know as intake or Detention hearing) 4. Adjudication Hearing- determines merit the petition. (Court hearing) 5. Disposition Hearing- makes determination of treatment, supervision, or rehabilitation is needed Taking child into custody 42 Pa. Ch. 6324 - Pursuant to court order, Pursuant to laws of arrest Or if Child is suffering injury or illness, is in imminent danger, has run away, or violated probation A child can be released to (Pa. 42 Ch. 6326) - Parent or Guardian or other Custodian upon their PROMISE to bring child to court when requested. Parental Notification (Pa. 42 Ch. 6310) - A person taking a child into custody shall with reasonable speed and without taking child elsewhere, notify parent, guardian or custodian of the apprehension of a child and his whereabouts as soon as reasonably practical Interviewing juvenile offenders - Must have parent, guardian or custodian present Advise of Miranda Warning
