Shell speaks to his father about it and then his father implies that he like Rosalie Mr Gidhares's daughter. Shell then meetes the boys Joe, Lennard and Roy and finds out that Joe is in some sort of relationship with Rosalie because Lennard keeps teasing Joe about it. Chapter 2 - Shell speaks with Lennard about Rosalie. It is alluded to that Lennard might have a crush on Rosalie. Mr Gidharee cut the head off and starts slicing the rest of the iguana's body because he wants to take it home to cook. What does the iguana in Chapter 4 symbolize - It symbolizes the brawns and bruteness of Mr. Gidharee under his kind demeanor. It also symbolizes Shell's immaturity because of his reaction. He is not used to hunting or eating animals like this and he reacts in a childish way but we can see in chapter 29 at the end of the book that he has grown somewhat because he is in the bush with Mr Gidharee and has a hunting rifle and a cutlass presumably to use to kill and take home anything to cook. Chapter 5 - Shell sees the 'dougla girl' rosalie and makes conversation with her. Lennard soon comes and joins the conversation (takes over the conversation) . He and Joan are playing a game called grean leaf. Lennard calls Rosalie names that make her uncomfortable like 'littke nice jane' and it is clear that Rosalie dislikes him comments because she is interested in Joe.It is also clear that Lennard likes Rosalie. Chapter 6 - Shell meets Rosalie outside again with the dogs and starts a conversation once more. Shell asks Rosalie about being Lennard's 'jane' and she denies it. She invites him to the discover day fair dance. He also tells her about his sick father. Rosalie asks if Shell likes her sister Dokly but Shell sates that he likes someone else, heavily implying that he like her but she ignores his advance.Chapter 7-8 - Discovery day fair Chapter 7 - Shell goes to the fair in hopes of seeing Rosalie. He sees Lennard and a girl dancing. He is alone by a window until he is approached by Rosalie and Joe. Rosalie and Joe are dancing in a very intimate manner that makes Shell jealous. Lennard lets Shell dance with a girl he was with before, Joan. Joan and Shell get along and dance to 'peanut vendor' together. He learns that Joan is from Sangre Grande and after the conversation he left her. He sonverses with Joe about drinking 'strongs' and about how Rosalie was with Lennard. Rosalie then approaches them.
