Question 2

A grade R teacher spends a lot of time with the children in her class thus he/she is in the
perfect position to asses a child’s development to see if it is up to standard. The best way to
assess a child’s development is through observation. For a teacher to be able to observe a
child to assess the child’s development, he/ she need a good knowledge about how a child is
supposed to develop. Each child’s development differs but normal development follows
certain stages. Interruptions in this developmental pattern might be a sign of developmental
“red lights” so the teacher needs to identify them so it can be paid special attention to.

Question 3

3.1. The children were asked to do an obstacle course. The child followed a walking pattern,
hopped 10 steps on his right foot, tried to skip rope but was only able to jump over the

teacher.
