Unit 8
P1 - Outline an outbound and inbound passenger journey through an airport for a leisure and a
business passenger, describing the processes, facilities and services available along the route.
I have plotted a route for both business and leisure, outbound and inbound passengers who
are travelling to and from Heathrow Airport.
Outbound business passenger
An inbound passenger is travelling due to work. They will be visiting a conference in Paris,
the flight will be early in the morning. The passenger will want a quiet environment to work
in before they leave for the conference.
The business passenger would hire a car in order to get to the airport. They would park at
the off-site cark park at the airport they enter the airport. For the beginning of their journey
the business passenger would enter the airport and check in. They would use online check-
in to make the airport aware that they have arrived at the airport for their flight. They would
visit a self-service kiosk in order to see what extra services the airport offers such as
information.
They would visit the first floor in order to go to the security area. The express lane is mostly
used by business passengers as they would be in a hurry. They would go through express
lane security so they can avoid the long queue because they would not want to waste their
time by waiting. They would visit the security area in order to get their luggage checked by
one of the airport staff. Staff would see if the passenger has followed the requirements of
airports. Passengers would need to follow restrictions about contents, size and weight of
their luggage and its contents. After the passenger’s luggage is checked they would go to the
bag drop area. They would visit bag drop after they have checked in to put their luggage
onto the plane.
Before visiting the private lounge they would get information about their flight from
departure screens to see if their flight is departing on time. The private lounge has many
facilities such as the charging facilities that can be used for laptops. The VIP lounge also has
Wi-Fi available for its passengers to use. They would visit the private lounge so they can use
their time effectively to work before they go on their flight. The business passenger would
want to visit the private lounge because it would be quiet so they can do their work easily
without disturbances.
When it is time for their flight to depart they would go to the departure gates to board their
flight. The passenger has priority business class tickets this means that they are able to go
on the flight before other passengers. They are visiting a conference so they would want to
go there as quickly as possible so they do not arrive late.
