Communicable disease.
Pathogens-
A pathogen is a microorganism that causes a disease.
4 main types of pathogens.
pathogens Example in animal Example in plant
Virus HIV-AIDs Tobacco mosaic virus
bacteria salmonella agrobacterium
fungi Athlete’s foot Rose black spot
protist malaria Downy mildew
All types of pathogens have a simple life cycle. They infect a host, reproduce themselves or replicate
if it’s a virus, spread from their host and infect other organisms.
Diseases caused by pathogens are called communicable diseases. This means they can be transferred
from one person to another.
Some disease that cannot be caught are-
Deficiency diseases which are caused by lack of essential vitamins or minerals.
Disease like cancer that develop because of exposure to pathogens or developed naturally as
all cell division accurse incorrectly.
All organisms are effects by pathogens even bacteria are infected a certain type of viruses.
Viral diseases-
Viruses are not alive because they do not complete all the 7 life processes.
The life cycle of a virus is the same as other pathogens. They can often survive outside a host for a
long period of time, viral infections cannot be treated by antibiotics.
Tobacco mosaic viruses –
The tobacco mosaics viruses infect tobacco and lots of other such as tomatoes and peppers.
It is transmitted by contact between plants, either naturally or through the hands of framers.
It infects the chloroplast, and it changes the appearance of leaves.
This reduces the plant’s ability to photosynthesis and grow more productively, which
decreases the crops growth for the farmers.
Farmers must try to reduce the infection because there is no cure for these infections which
will lead for the famers to lose profit.
Measles
Measles is a very infectious viral disease which is mostly caught by young children, its transmitted
through the air in tiny droplets called airborne which transfer from an infected person when
sneezing, this causes a fever and skin rash which can be very irritating.
