Voor u bevindt zich het adviesrapport waarin wordt beschreven of het uitvoeren van twee
intercontinentale vluchten voor Transavia kan uitmonden in een positief resultaat. Doormiddel van
deskresearch is er informatie verzameld over een bestemming, vliegtuigkeuze en de hierbij komende
kosten. Dit verslag is geschreven in het kader van semester twee, genaamd Airport & Aviation
Management, in het derde jaar van de opleiding Business Studies Logistiek op het Inholland in
Haarlem.
Wij willen als projectgroep Marten Walsma en Yolande den Braber bedanken voor de hulp en
feedback. Daarnaast willen we de andere docenten tijdens het tweede semester bedanken voor de
gegeven theorie.

, INLEIDING
In dit adviesrapport wordt onderzoek gedaan naar de mogelijkheid tot het uitvoeren van twee
intercontinentale vluchten voor low cost carrier Transavia. Steeds meer low cost carriers richten zich
op de long haul vluchten. Zo vliegen onder andere AirAsia, Singapore Airlines, Eurowings en
Norwegian Airlines langere afstanden voor lagere kosten. Doormiddel van dit onderzoek wordt er
gekeken of een dergelijke long haul vlucht voor Transavia ook een succes kan worden.
Het rapport is verdeeld in zes hoofdstukken, waarbij vijf hoofdstukken een deelvraag beantwoorden.
In het eerste hoofdstuk wordt gekeken naar de huidige situatie binnen Transavia, wat in kaart wordt
gebracht door het uitvoeren van verschillende analyses. In het tweede hoofdstuk wordt gekeken naar
de gewenste situatie voor Transavia, waarbij informatie wordt gezocht over de bestemming, de keuze
van het vliegtuig en analyses over de verschillende luchthavens in het land van de bestemming. In het
derde hoofdstuk zal worden gekeken welke aanpassingen Transavia zal moeten gaan doen om long
haul te gaan vliegen. Hier wordt voornamelijk gekeken naar het personeel, de bagageafhandeling,
brandstofvoorziening en de slotkosten op de vliegvelden. In hoofdstuk vier wordt er gekeken naar de
regelgeving en veiligheidseisen waar Transavia op moeten gaan letten bij het maken van
intercontinentale gebieden. Hierin staan de douane, veiligheid, ETOPS en de algemene voorwaarden
centraal. In hoofdstuk vijf zullen de kosten, voor zowel het vliegtuig als het besparen van kosten door
het minimaliseren van risico’s, in kaart worden gebracht. In hoofdstuk zes worden de conclusies en
aanbevelingen beschreven. Na elk hoofdstuk zal er een conclusie worden beschreven. Het
adviesrapport eindigt met de literatuurlijst en de bijlagen.

, MANAGEMENTSAMENVATTING
This report will research the possibility of realizing and conducting two intercontinental flights by low
cost carrier Transavia. An increasing amount of low cost carriers focusses on long haul flights, which
results in a rise of competitiveness within the market. This report is divided into 6 chapters which will
analyse the current situation of Transavia, the desired situation, which adjustments Transavia should
make to realize the long haul flights, chapter five will analyse the costs and profits of the operation
and finally a conclusion with a recommendation.
Research shows that the aviation industry is changing rapidly both on social and competitive level. The
rise of low cost carriers is becoming bigger and bigger, which increases the need for airline companies
to distinguish themselves on the market in order to stay competitive. The greatest challenges for
Transavia are to to take advantage of fluctuating kerosene prices, to keep improving the efficiency of
the business processes and obtain a larger market share. Transavia can differentiate themselves from
the other low cost airlines by focussing on international long haul flights so they can keep competing.
After an elaborate analysis we concluded that the most suitable destinations for such flights are Indira
Ghandi International Airport New Delhi and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Mumbai in India.
After that we analysed the different airplanes and concluded that the Boeing 787-9 dreamliner would
be the best choice due to the low fuel consumption. After those two analyses a few additional topics
were addressed, for example the passenger needs to state up front which needs, like consumptions,
he will have in his flights to India. Last but not least, the financial analysis was made and calculated
that it would be possible for Transavia to fly to offer tickets to India of a maximum of 385 euro’s.
After the pros and cons were discussed the final advice is to set up the two long haul low cost flights
to India. The aviation market is changing continuously and this report shows that it would be the right
choice for Transavia to increase their range of flights in the low cost market. At the moment KLM has
an agreement with Jet Airways who also has a route from India to Amsterdam, so Transavia would
become a competitor of Jet Airways. However, it would be an advantage to KLM to have a deal with
an organisation who they are connected to then to an organisation like Jet Airways. The report shows
if Transavia keeps the operational costs low the time it would take to reach the Break-even-point
would be relatively low. By introducing the long haul low costs flights to India the airline company
would become a larger competitor on the low cost market, which is of great importance in a time like
this.
