NEW NOTES FOR 9TH STANDARD (2022 -2023)
SUBJECT: PHYSICS
IMPORTANT TOPICS
CHAPTER NO: 01
PHYSICAL QUANTITIES AND MEASUREMENT
TOPIC NO: 01
PHYSICS:
The word “Physics” comes from a Greek word “ Physikos ” meaning “natural” . Now it is
defined as:
Physics is that branch of science, which offers the study of the properties of matter and
energy along with the interaction between them.
MAIN BRANCHES OF PHYSICS:
1. MECHANICS: It deals with the motion of objects with or without reference of force.
2. ELECTRICITY: It is concerned with the phenomena and effects related to electric
charges.
3. MAGNETISM: Magnetism is the study of magnetic properties of materials.
4. SOLID-STATE PHYSICS: It is concerned with the structure and properties of
crystalline solid materials.
5. ATOMIC PHYSICS: It deals with the structure and properties of atoms.
6. NUCLEAR PHYSICS: This branch is concerned with the structure, properties and
reactions of the nuclei of atoms.
7. PLASMA PHYSICS: It is concerned with the properties of highly ionized atoms
forming a mixture of bare nuclei (nuclei without electrons) and electrons.
8. BIO PHYSICS: It is concerned with the application of Physical methods and
explanations of bio- physics system and structures.
9. ASTROPHYSICS: It is concerned with the study of the Physics of astronomical
bodies.
10.THERMODYNAMICS : Thermodynamics deals with heat and temperature and
their relation to energy and work.
