Laboratory Skills & Data Analysis
How atom us structured?
How it changes in mass from one atom to another?
What we find internally inside the atom?
How different elements have different types of atoms associated with it?
We need to look at the internal structure of an atom& how many different particles that we have
internally and how the different numbers of particles affect the behaviour of that atom?
To identity of atom and its behaviour, we can then understand how atoms connect together & form
molecules!
The Atom:
The word atom comes from Greek language meaning not cuttable. Atom is described as the basic
building block and cannot be broken down into smaller units.
Atoms are made up smaller particles and those are made up smaller particles.
The basic structure : the centre( nucleus) surrounded by an electron cloud. Most of the atom is
empty space.
Slide 2:
History of Atoms. Understand of Chemistry & Physics involved over time.
Slide 3:
Atoms is a very small structure.
- Nucleus containers both Protons & Neutrons
- Electrons are found in the cloud around the nucleus
Bore Models
Electrons have negative charge
Protons have positive charge
Neutrons have no charge
