(P) Welcome New York! We’re on Friday 13 th of June and in today’s show we’ve invited someone.
Clap your hands to welcome Mr Chiwetel Umeadi Ejiofor (Ms the host has difficulties to say the
name) and Sir Steve Rodney McQueen !
Public and Ms the host applaud wildly
(P) Oh, excuse me but they tell me in my earpiece that Mr Umeadi hasn’t arrived yet. Anyways.
Welcome Sir McQueen!
(C) thank you for having me!
(P) Wasn’t the travel in New York’s jungle too difficult?
(C) Thank you, Ms the host but I’m actually more afraid about your questions.
Public laughs moderately and Ms the host look daggers at Sir McQueen and replies coldly
(P) So, let’s start. Can you...
Mr Umeadi brutally open the door
(D) Sorry for my tardiness! The coffee machine was literally on fire! Sorry. Whoops, the show already
started!
(P) Yes Mr Umaedee.
(D) Umeadi Ms the host
Public laughs moderately
(P) Where was I...? Oh yes let’s start. Sir McQueen, your last movie is “Twelve years a slave” and tells
the true story of a black man captured to be sold on a slave market.
(C) In fact, the film is inspired by Solomon Northup’s masterpiece written in 1853. I found this book at
a flea market. When I saw it, I just had a revelation!
(P) Wait what?? Did you see Jesus?!
(C) Of course not, however I am still looking for him! But let me explain why this book was a turning
point in my movie project, even may I say in my life! When I was a child, I had a friend of mine named
Lenny, he was Black. We were playing in a park when a boy older than us told him “Hey, return to
Africa you’re just a slave !!” This made me so angry, but you see I couldn’t do anything because he
was so much stronger than me. So, ever since this day I have an ultimate dream: to change people’s
behaviours towards African Americans.
