In this task, I will be selecting two businesses and identifying the way these businesses plan their
recruiting campaigns. The two businesses I will be talking about is Tesco, one of the biggest
supermarkets in the world including the UK and ‘enterprise-rent-a-car’.
Recruitment process happens in a business throughout the whole year as a lot of staffs are either off
work due to their lifestyle reasons or leave for a better work place. Therefore, there is a recruitment
process which takes place whenever needed to replace a member of staff or to employ more staffs
due to seasonal sales such as Christmas and boxing days. Most of the times, businesses recruit staffs
due to shortage of staffs. Some high-end business and other big business may seek fresh experience
and a better-quality employee, therefore, they start a recruitment process and start to look for who
best fits the job role. Businesses must have back up employees as the main employees aren’t
available to work every day, therefore, these empty availability spaces must be covered by back up
workers.
Tesco
Tesco is one of the biggest supermarket worldwide, its best known for selling groceries, home
product, clothing and fuel. They have many competitors, Sainsbury being their main one. They have
one of the greatest customer service which is one reason to why they’re very successful. In this case,
Tesco take their recruiting campaigns serious which is why they only recruit one of the finest
workers. Tesco have their requirements and objectives in an employee; some of them are,
• Collaboration – working across the business to achieve shared success
• Responsiveness – being agile in the way you think, make decisions and handle change
• Innovation – keeping your eyes open so you can lead the business for the future.
• Empathy – building strong relationships with customers and colleagues
• Resilience – knowing your own sources of energy and keeping yourself fit for life
Tesco believes these requirements are very important by adding a comment, “These skills will realise
our vision and strategy in a changing world. This shows that the human resource department at
Tesco covers many areas which will lead the business to more success. Every business has objectives
and goals including Tesco. The reason to this is that this creates a guideline for the success of the
business. Tesco aims to maintain their reputation and carry on leading in the supermarket retail
market. Since Tesco is one of the leading businesses for supermarket in the UK, it is very important
that their staffs are qualified with the correct information and legal issues within the business, they
must have the correct training skills and knowledge about the company, this is whether they’re a
part-time worker, full-time worker, temporary employee or permanent.
Tesco internal and external recruitment
Applying for a job at Tesco is mostly completed online either on the official Tesco website or other
third parties such as indeed.co.uk. Tesco recruitment process for an external recruitment is very
competitive. Those who want to work at Tesco hand-in/submit their cv, based on how good their cv
is they will be contacted; there is three methods they go through, one is to take an online test,
second phone interview, third meet the manager and go on a trial. Once they believe an individual
has the correct requirements to be recruited for the job, they will receive an offer. A disadvantage of
external recruitment could be the fact they are spending way too much time and money into finding
the individuals skills and abilities. Also, some people don't really have the qualifications and skills
they claim to have on their CV's, these little things are shown when they're taking into interviews,
tests and trials. However, an advantage of external recruitment is that the new employee will bring
fresh ideas and skills to the business. In some cases, new employees with great qualifications and
