,1. INTRODUCTION
Dear Student

As part of this tutorial letter, we wish to inform you that Unisa has implemented a transformation
charter based on five pillars and eight dimensions. In response to this charter, we have also
placed curriculum transformation high on the agenda. For your information, curriculum
transformation includes the following pillars: student-centred scholarship, the pedagogical
renewal of teaching and assessment practices, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and
the infusion of African epistemologies and philosophies. These pillars and their principles will be
integrated at both the programme and module levels, as a phased-in approach. You will notice
the implementation thereof in your modules, and we encourage you to fully embrace these
changes during your studies at Unisa.

2. IN GENERAL
The five-week teaching practice for TPF2602 comprises the following:

Assignment 50 – two weeks Grade R – two full weeks

Assignment 51 – three weeks Grade 1 One full week
Grade 2 One full week
Grade 3 One full week

• Do not only spend a few days at a time in a grade. You must spend a full week in the
respective grade.
• You may do the full five weeks consecutively.
• Many students do the first two weeks and then the remaining three weeks a bit later.
• It is compulsory to read the placement requirements (five weeks) for your teaching
practice which is handled by the Teaching Practice Office.
• The full five weeks must be indicated on your placement form.
• If you complete your teaching practice at two schools (preschool and/or primary), indicate
it as such.
• No student will be allowed to do teaching practice before receiving confirmation of
placement (read Tutorial Letter 102)
• NO LECTURERS ISSUE CONFIRMATION OF PLACEMENT; this is the responsibility of
the Teaching Practice Office.
• Submit your assignments within TWO WEEKS after you have completed your teaching
practice at the school.
• All your planning must be in its final format before you leave the school in order not to
lose any evidence (e.g. photographs) or delay the submission of your assignment.

information in this tutorial letter carefully.
• It contains pertinent general and administrative information about the portfolio.

SECTION B
This section includes the lessons, which you must complete during the three-week teaching
practice for this particular workbook. Your lessons during your teaching practice require co-
teaching and are aligned with a specific teaching subject and methodology that must take place
in Grade 1, 2 and 3.

This information will show you what is expected of you during the three-week teaching
practice period which is required in Workbook 51, and help organise your time effectively.
We advise you to share this information with your mentor teacher in an effort to plan and
integrate certain lessons where possible and to synchronise these lessons with the timetable
and weekly planning for the period.

Furthermore, this is a workbook in which you are expected to plan a series of lessons with the
support of a school-based mentor, teach the lessons while being observed, and reflect critically
on the plan and practice in consultation with the school-based mentor.
