Combining nursing as art and science helps predict which nursing interventions are most likely to produce a desired outcome: also known as evidence-based practice! What are clinical pathways? And what are the benefits of it? Multidisciplinary plans for a specific diagnosis; clinical pathways identify aspects of care needed to be performed during a specific length of stay. What are the four Nursing Skills? What do you do during each skill? ● Assessment: Involve collecting Data , interviewing, observing and examining the pt. ● Caring: Safe care, Assist with ADL’s (bathing, grooming,eating), Help pt. become self reliant ● Counseling: Empathize, listen, communicate, emotional support Empathy: Being aware of what the client is experiencing to understand the client’s emotional state and need for support. Sympathy: Feeling as distraught as the patient. ● Comforting: Ensure stability and security during health crisis (ACCC)=Assessment, caring, comforting, counseling What is the importance of continuing education? Continuing education applies to Nightingale’s learning is a lifelong process so: ● NO basic program provides all the knowledge and skills needed for a lifetime career ● Technology make past methods invalid constantly ● Ensures Safety Florence Nightingale School vs. United States Schools Nightingale: Planned and formal education was the priority, and proper training of nurses. United States: Was like an unsubsidized apprenticeship (Money-Based) ● Any hospital, rural or urban could have training school ● Students worked without pay during training ● No classes were held, working was the nurses training ● Hospitals profited by eliminating the need to pay employees LVN/LPN Scope of Practice *LVNs and UAPs are under a RN, physician assistant, physician, and dentist; LVNs supervise UAPs. LVNs provide care to clients with common health needs that have a predictable outcome.The LVN must know the extent to which nursing assistants can function and the outcomes of their actions
