Summative Assessment Decision Record
Assignment 2: Grammar for Young Learners Lesson Plan and Essay
This document is provided as a record of the assessment decision(s) made by your tutors towards your
GA Level 5 Certificate / Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) i-to-
i. The Lesson Plan and Written Work you submitted has been assessed by your tutor and their
feedback, as well as their assessment decision, is below.
By completing and passing the formative and summative online assessments, you have had the
opportunity to demonstrate that you have knowledge and understanding of teaching grammar and
young learners. However, opportunities to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of these topics,
their learning outcomes and units must also be present in your Lesson Plan and/or Written Work. Your
tutor will record this below.

Feedback:
Well done, Alkecear.. You have submitted an excellent grammar assignment. You have presented a PPP
lesson in which your aims and outcomes are clear, and you have anticipated some likely problems that the
students might face because of the target grammar and their age, and you have supplied workable solutions.
You have analysed the target language well, demonstrating the function, form, and context. You have
included concept checking questions and details of how the pronunciation and structure will be taught.
Each stage of your lesson plan is clear, well-timed and with clear procedures and aims. You include well-
designed materials which will probably work. Your production stage is communicative and will enable the
students to interact and use the target grammar freely and fluently. Your rationale is well-written, justifying
your choice of methodology and describing the stages of your lesson. There are, however, some
improvements you should make. Please read my notes below:
Your concept checking is good, however you should include a set of CCQs for each of your target quantifiers.
Although some of your exercises conform to the ‘planning a celebration’ theme, the lesson doesn’t always
stick with this theme. In your controlled practice worksheet, this sentence is not linked to your theme:
‘How many hours does it take to fly to Dubai’.
The children need a coherent theme in order to contextualise the lesson. Your production activity involves
students writing a series of unconnected sentences. Perhaps a production task which follows a theme might
be a good idea. Perhaps ask students to plan a surprise party. Either using a spoken dialogue, or an
exchange of emails, they could ask each other: ‘Have we got many balloons?’ etc.
I’m not sure about this breakdown of the negative structure. It’s helpful to provide an example sentence to
compare with the breakdown:
SUBJECT + AUXILIARY VERB + QUANTIFIER + UNCOUNTABLE/COUNTABLE NOUN + COMPLIMENT
