1. Samenstelling

➔ Mineralen (anorganisch materiaal met een eigen kristalstructuur)
➔ VB.: diamant, grafiet, amethist, pyriet, zout

2. Indeling van gesteenten volgens ontstaan

A. Magmatische of stollingsgesteenten
➔ Ontstaan door stolling van magma
➔ Trage of snelle stolling
➔ Sneller = minder kristallisatie
➔ Subductie (= onderduiken zwaarste korst): link platentektoniek
➔ 3 soorten: volgens plaats & omstandigheden stolling


❖ Dieptegesteenten
➔ Traag stollend magma
➔ Diep in de aardkorst
➔ Textuur = kristallijn
➔ VB.: graniet

❖ Ganggesteenten
➔ Noch snel, noch traag stollend magma
➔ In gangen & pijpen (verbinding maken
aardoppervlak)
➔ Textuur = gedeeltelijk amorf (kristallen niet zichtbaar)
& kristallijn (grote kristallen)
➔ VB.: porfier
