, Samenvatting
Inleiding
Het percentage voor dementie steeg naarmate iemand ouder werd. Dementerende ouderen indiceerde
een toename van zorgbehoeften, waarvoor handvatten nodig waren in de vorm van advance care
planning (ACP). Het doel was om de ervaringen van verpleegkundigen/verzorgenden met het bieden van
steun aan de dementerende cliënt en naasten tijdens advance care planning te onderzoeken op de
psychogeriatrische afdeling van woonzorgcentrum Mariënstein.

Methode
Er heeft kwalitatief onderzoek plaatsgevonden. Via een interviewguide hebben er door middel van in- en
exclusiecriteria acht semi-gestructureerde interviews plaatsgevonden met verpleegkundigen en
verzorgenden van de psychogeriatrische afdeling in woonzorgcentrum Mariënstein. De interviews
werden met audioapparatuur opgenomen, getranscribeerd en gecodeerd volgens de open-axiaal-
selectief methode.

Resultaten
De onderzoekspopulatie bestond uit twee verpleegkundigen met niveau vijf/zes en zes verzorgende
individuele gezondheidszorg. De respondenten, zeven vrouwen en één man, waren tussen de anderhalf
en vijftien jaar werkzaam op de afdeling. Uit de interviews kwamen vijf thema’s: omgevingsfactoren
voor ACP gesprek, communicatie, vertrouwen, behoeftes en belemmeringen.

Discussie & Conclusie
Concluderend kon worden gezegd dat de respondenten vooral positieve ervaringen hadden met het
bieden van steun. De respondenten benadrukten het belang van goede communicatie en vertrouwen.
Belemmeringen, zoals kennistekort, cognitieve achteruitgang en onenigheid binnen de familie
bemoeilijkte de manier om steun te bieden. Kijkend naar de discussie vielen er sterktes en beperkingen
