School Counselor OAE 2023 ASCA: Its National Model - ANS-Define, Manage, Deliver, and Assess Manage - ANS-Program Planning includes the management of School Data Summary (to have access to a wide range of data on students to contrast it with data in similar schools in the district), Annual Student Outcome Goals (allows Lara to review goals achieved in an annual basis), Action Plans (means that the counselor will have a Classroom and Group Mindsets & Behavior Plan and a Closing-the-Gap Plan/Results Report. Deliver - ANS-Direct Student Services: These are individual interactions between the counselor and student. There are three instances of direct services. First, Instruction, which includes lessons the counselor prepares to aid students in achieving academic goals within a given subject. Second, Appraisal and Advisement in which the counselor determines the set of skills a student possesses to then make recommendations. Third, Counseling, which are group or individual activities in order to provide counseling. Indirect Student Services: These are actions the counselor takes in order to help students by consulting with teachers, administrators, parents, etc. Also, response to crisis is withing this type of service as it involves the collaboration with adults. Define - ANS-This component of the ASCA model aims to identifying the standards that define a comprehensive school counseling program. The action to Define includes two aspects: Student Standards & Professional Standards or Competencies Assess - ANS-This component allows counselors to evaluate their programs to then propose continuous improvement in two wide areas: Program Assessment & School Counselor Assessment and Appraisal ASCA National Standards: Domains & Use - ANS-Academic Development, Career Development, & Personal/Social Development Academic Development Standards - ANS-Standard A: Students acquire the attitudes, knowledge, and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span. Standard B: Students will complete school with the academic preparation essential to choose from a wide range of substantial post-secondary options, including college.
