http://investor.shareholder.com/mar/faq.cfm

 Some key facilities of London Marriott Heathrow
 The purpose of the Hotel – what is their mission statement and intent
 Aims and Objective of the company
 Ownership of the company – what does this mean?

The company was founded in 1927 by JW Marriott and his wife. The first Marriott hotel had
opening in 1957 in Arlington Virginia. JW Marriott had a son named JW Marriott Junior who
was the person to manage the first hotel. Currently Bill Marriot (JW Marriot’s son) is the
Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board. Between the dates of 1927 – 1956 Willard
Marriott and his wife, Alice built a small root beer stand which was just the start for the
business. In 1927 they had opened the root beer stand and within the next year the
Marriott’s had opened two more ‘Hot Shoppes’ which was including the east coasts first
drive-thru restaurant. In 1953 Hot Shoppes, Inc. stock was available to the public and was
$10.25 per share and then sells out in two hours of trading. In 1957 Marriott moved into the
hotel business and over the next 25 years the Marriott hotel had become a diverse global
enterprise. Marriott International reported revenues of nearly $14 billion in fiscal year 2014.

In 2012 Marriott acquires Gaylord Hotels Brand adding five hotels and approximately 2
million square feet of meeting and event space. Marriott Hotel had also received over $12
billion in annual revenue. In 2015 the revenue of the Marriott hotel was $3.689 billion on
the 13 weeks ending on the date 30/06/2015, except for per share items. By 1999 there
were over 360 Marriot hotels and resorts in 47 countries, and in 2012 Marriott celebrated
the opening of the 500th Marriott hotels and resorts in India. By 2015 Marriott International,
Inc., became a global leading lodging company with more than 4,200 properties in 79
countries and territories. Marriott International reported revenues of nearly $14 billion in
fiscal year 2014. It was founded by J. Willard and Alice Marriott and guided by Marriott
family leadership for nearly 90 years, the company is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland,
USA.

The Marriott hotel is in the tertiary sector as it only provides the goods and services. The
Marriott hotel only provides the services that the people need and does not produce them.
The Marriott hotels main service is the hotel, so people have somewhere to stay for a short
time, but it does have other services that it can provide the customers. For example the
Marriott hotel has trip advisers so that some people are able to check out the sights as well
as know where to go. This is a service that the Marriott hotel provides besides
accommodation. Another one of the services they provide are business and resort travel.
This service helps many customers out as some are on business trips whereas others are
looking to go on holiday.
