Communism- classless society, major means of production controlled by the public. Wealth
divided among citizens equally or after individual needs
Capitalism- country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather
than by the state
Peoples names to remember:
(There are a lot more people but these are just some of them)
Joseph Stalen (USSR)
Nikita S. Khrushchev (USSR)
John F. Kennedy (US)
Dwight D. Eisenhower (US)
Ronald Reagan (US)
Fidel Castro (Cuba)
2. Give information on crisis
The Thaw, from 1953-1960
A period where the relations between the USSR and the US started becoming
warmer/better.
U-2 Crisis, May 1960
Paris conference went really badly for the US.
Before start of Paris conference, Khrushchev informs Eisenhower about U-2 plane sighted
and shot down above Soviet territory (doesn’t mention espionage and custody of pilot).
Eisenhower first dismisses this as off-course weather plane.
The pilot and most of the plane survived the crash. Khrushchev informs of pilots survival
(Gary Power), Eisenhower is caught lying thus humiliated. Eisenhower refuses apology.
The „Thaw“ was now over.
