Introduction to Analytical Geometry
Source: Siyavula Technology-Powered Learning
Geometry (from the Greek “geo” = earth and “metria” = measure) arose as the field of knowledge
dealing with spatial relationships. Geometry can be split into Euclidean geometry and analytical
geometry.
a) Analytical geometry deals with space and shape using algebra and a coordinate system.
b) Euclidean geometry deals with space and shape using a system of logical deductions.
Analytical Geometry
In this section of analytical geometry you will learn about the following:
1. Distance between two points _ distance formula
2. Mid-point of a line segment _ Mid-point formula
3. Gradient and properties of line (drawing from the work from linear functions)
Activity 1 _ Fun activity
i) Navigate through the interactive Cartesian Coordinates on the link below
https://www.mathsisfun.com/data/cartesian-coordinates-interactive.html
As you click on coords, guides, snaps, regular see what different spatial figures you can create.
ii) Drawing figures on the Cartesian plane.
