Uni 6 Assignment Two: Investigative Project Planning and Analysis Learning Aim: The primary objective of Uni 6 Assignment Two is to guide students in producing a comprehensive plan for an investigative project based on a previously developed proposal. The assignment aims to develop students' ability to translate theoretical concepts into a practical and organized project plan while integrating health and safety considerations, risk assessments, and contingency planning. Furthermore, the assignment necessitates critical analysis of the project plan's effectiveness, leading to justifiable changes. Assignment Overview: Students are tasked with creating a detailed plan for an investigative project that reflects the framework of the original proposal. This plan must consider every aspect of project execution, including practical implementation, health and safety measures, risk assessments, and contingency planning. Furthermore, the assignment requires students to critically analyze the plan's effectiveness, identifying any areas for improvement and justifying any changes made. Assignment Criteria: Realistic Working Plan: Students must create a comprehensive and realistic working plan that outlines the entire project lifecycle. This includes an elaboration of the tasks, activities, milestones, and a timeline. The plan should be structured and well-organized, showcasing an understanding of project management principles. Health and Safety Considerations: Integrating health and safety measures into the project plan is essential. Students must identify potential hazards associated with the project and propose measures to mitigate these risks, ensuring the well-being of all involved parties. Risk Assessments: Students are required to conduct thorough risk assessments, identifying potential risks that could impact project success. For each risk, they must assess the likelihood and potential impact, along with suggesting mitigation strategies. Contingency Planning: A critical element of project management is preparing for unforeseen events. Students need to develop contingency plans that outline steps to take if risks materialize or if the project encounters unexpected challenges. Analysis of Effectiveness: This part of the assignment involves critically evaluating the effectiveness of the working plan. Students need to identify strengths and weaknesses, reflect on the practicality of the plan, and explain how the plan addresses the original research objectives. Key Learning Objectives: Project Planning: Students develop the skills necessary to create a comprehensive and feasible project plan, aligned with research objectives and sound project management principles. Risk Management: By conducting risk assessments and developing contingency plans, students learn how to anticipate and manage potential challenges. Health and Safety: The assignment promotes awareness of health and safety considerations in project execution and demonstrates the ability to integrate safety measures. Critical Analysis: Analyzing the effectiveness of the project plan encourages critical thinking and the ability to identify areas for improvement. Change Justification: By suggesting changes to the plan and justifying those changes, students learn to make informed decisions in a research context. Assessment Criteria: P3: Realistic Working Plan: Assessment considers the comprehensiveness, feasibility, and organization of the working plan, as well as the integration of health and safety measures and risk assessments. M3: Contingency Planning: A higher grade criterion includes the development of comprehensive contingency plans alongside risk assessments. D2: Analysis of Plan Effectiveness: A distinction level criterion involves a thorough analysis of the project plan's effectiveness, including identifying strengths and weaknesses and justifying changes made. Uni 6 Assignment Two combines the practical aspects of project management with critical analysis, providing students with a comprehensive learning experience. By integrating health and safety measures, risk assessments, and contingency planning, students learn to manage projects in a real-world context while ensuring the safety of all involved. The assignment's focus on analyzing the plan's effectiveness encourages students to think critically and make informed decisions to enhance project outcomes.

Unit 6: Investigative Project

Project planning

B: Produce a plan for an investigative project based on the proposal.

Hypothesis: As caffeine concentration increases, the daphnia’s heart rate increases.

Method
Before starting the experiment, caffeine concentrations would be required to be produced the
method for this is:
● Take caffeine powder and then use a spatula to take out the caffeine concentration by 1,
0.1, 0.01 and 0.001 mg/L, use a measuring spoon and measuring cup to ensure
accuracy.
● Add water to the caffeine concentrations until the caffeine powder is fully dissolved in the
water.

Once the caffeine concentrations have been created, the experiment can begin, the method to
complete the experiment is:
● After gently removing one daphnia with a pipette and placing it on a cavity slide, place
the cavity slide under a microscope.
● As much water as possible should be taken out of the Daphnia to prevent contamination
of the caffeine concentrations.
● Add a few drops of the caffeine concentrate to the daphnia using a pipette.
● Once the daphnia's heart is visible under the microscope, begin counting heartbeats with
a counter and a stopwatch within 30 seconds.
● Repeat steps 2-4 until all caffeine concentrations have produced results.

Alternative method if laboratory technicians provide caffeine concentrations.
If a scenario occurs where the caffeine concentrations are prepared by the laboratory
technicians, then it’ll be the same method as the original method but without having the need to
create the caffeine concentrations prior to the experiment.
