Jeremiah 29:13
The respiratory system is the system that provides oxygen to the body and releases carbon
dioxide. The main organs in this system are; nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi and
lungs.
Divisions:
Zones:
o Conducting
o Respiratory
Tracts:
o Upper respiratory tract
o Lower respiratory tract
, trachea & bronchi
Trachea:
Connects the larynx to the lungs
Consists of c-shaped cartilaginous rings which protects the trachea and assists in
swallowing.
On the posterior surface is the trachealis muscle.
o The oesophagus lies behind the trachea, when there is hard swallowing the
muscles assists by constricting the trachea, even during coughing.
The carina is a modified cartilaginous ring that indicates the splitting of the trachea.
Trachea divides into two primary bronchi; left primary bronchi and right primary bronchi
o Each bronchi go into the lung via the hilum
o The right bronchus is larger and more vertical
The primary bronchi then divide into secondary lobar/bronchi
