- Adapted to fight in cold conditions.
- Used terrain to their advantage

Impact of WWII on Russia:
- The Soviet Union suffered the most deaths and casualties
- WWII became a defining moment in backing up Stalin’s legitimacy and allowed the
expansion of foreign policy with a higher sphere of influence over Eastern Europe
- 27 million deaths in Russia - 20 million of which were young men, which was a big
problem as it led to a shortage of men during and after the war - exhausted
potential.
- 1710 settlements and 70,000 villages destroyed
- 1/3 of the economy went to 💩
due to things like scorched earth policies from both
Russia and Germany, it affected surrounding regions such as poland and belarus
- The Victory in WWII was used as justification for the Purges, the Five Year Plans
and all the brutality that was implemented in order to drag Russia into the future -
otherwise Russia wouldn’t have won
