Day
Most esteemed principal Mr.Raneesh Mathew, head coordinator Mr. Vijeesh, respected
coordinator, teachers, admin staff, parents and my vibrant school mates a warm
morning to all.
It is indeed inspiring to be surrounded by so many energised and excited faces.
So on this beautiful morning, I welcome you all back to school and use this opportunity
to quote a few lines of famous writer Dr. Seuss and I quote,
“If you have brains in your head
And have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
In any direction you choose”
So friends, I request you all, let us steer ourselves towards a positive and productive
outlook this year, sparing a few thoughts in support of protecting our vital environment.
We all know,
“In the universe there are billions of galaxies
In our galaxies there are billions of planets
But there is only one earth”
And the United Nations Environment Programme (the UNEP) has selected this as the
theme of this World Environment Day 2022…”Only One Earth”.
Another interesting fact that I bring to your notice is that it was 50 years back on June
5th, 1972 that the first world environment day was observed under this same theme
after the UN conference in Stockholm.
Among other international leaders, India’s former prime minister Indira Gandhi gave
significant lead and ever since 150 countries, with big cooperations, non governmental
and governmental organisations, communities and famous celebrities have come under
one banner every year to champion this cause.
The world stands together to enable efforts for a cleaner and greener planet focusing on
“living sustainably in harmony with nature”. This year UNICEF in partnership with the
kerala legislative assembly will organise children and youth to advocate for climate
change.
Standing before you, I urge everyone to join in a mission. Let us all work to keep our
Speech on World Environment Day 1
