Christianity beliefs
Salvation
Christ died for our sins
Jesus gives up his life to save humanity
How does believing god is omnipotent, omnibenevolent and Just influence
Christians
● to worship god as he is worthy of worship
● To have hope for forgiveness
● To follow gods commandments and teachings
● To be just - to mirror god and how he’s just
Problem of evil and suffering - inconsistent triad
If god is omnibenevolent and evil exists then he can’t be omnipotent as he
doesn’t stop evil but if he’s omnipotent and evil exists then he can’t be
omnibenevolent
Theodicy - a defence of god
– free will: moral evil is caused by humans not god
– Evil and suffering are caused by original sin
– Evil and suffering are a part of gods plan and we need them to become
good and they are part of the bigger plan - if there are no homeless or
people in need of charity and others in jail, how can Christians
exercise the teachings of god to be able to enter heaven. Good values
are only developed through suffering
The oneness of god
– The father is the powerful creator of the world
– Jesus, who came to earth in human form and died
– Holy Spirit is the invisible part of god acting within the world
Why is the trinity so important
● It is the central belief of christianity
● Means that christians can understand the complex nature of god
● It is the central element of christian identity and distinguishes it from
every other religion
● Shows that Jesus is the son and the incarnation of god
● Teaches christians that god is present in the world today through the
Holy Spirit- acting as a source of comfort
● Helps christians understand different ways they can encounter
connect with god
● The trinity can be a model for our relationship on earth - unity is
diversity
● God is ultimately a mystery to human beings and cannot be
