Glycolysis
Stages of Glycolysis
Energy store (e.g. glycogen) converted to glucose
Phosphorylation
o one ATP molecule is hydrolysed to phosphorylate a glucose molecule to make
fructose phosphate
o one ATP molecule is hydrolysed to phosphorylate hexose phosphate to make
fructose biphosphate – catalysed by Phosphofructo Kinase enzyme
Fructose Biphosphate is split into 2 Triose Phosphate molecules
2 Triose Phosphate molecules are oxidised to 2 Pyruvate molecules
o 2 NAD molecules are reduced to 2 redNAD molecules
o 4 ADP + P are condensed to form 4 ATP molecules
Glucose ATP

2 NAD 4 ADP + P
2 redNAD ATP
