Solution
There is a strong connection between genes and diseases. Diseases can be classified into three
types based on the contribution of genes-
i) Monogenic disease- These are caused due to changes in a single gene.
ii) Chromosomal- Deletions, duplications, presence of an extra chromosome or a missing
chromosome can cause diseases.
iii) Multifactorial- These diseases are caused due to changes in several genes such as cancer,
cardiovascular diseases etc. Environmental factors can also cause changes in such genes.
Interrogative genomics and prioritization methods help in establishing relationship between
genes and diseases. A lot of genetic data analysis is involved in establishing the relationship
between genes and diseases.
