, Introduction
● These policies were made by the Conservative-led Coalition government (2010-2015) and
the Conservative government from 2015
● They accelerated the privatisation and marketisation of schools, their policies strongly
influenced by neoliberal and new right ideas about reducing the role of the state.
● David Cameron stated that with these policies, they wanted to encourage excellence,
competition and innovation by freeing schools from the “dead hand of the state”
● To do this they decided to cut the education budget.
