General Information :
● It's the most successful and largest Empire in history and ruled about one
quarter of the world at one point ( ’’the empire where the sun never sets ’’)
● Started in the 16ths and ended in 1997 when Hong Kong was transferred
back to China .
● It succeeded by partnering with local authorities .
● One of its largest colonies were : Canada , Australia and India
● ts purpose was to gain power , financial control and better their economy
Benefits :
● Britain gave the colonies a better infrastructure and development ( railways
and roads ) -Introduced new systems to them ; democracy , the law and
school system
● English language ; possible for people to communicate all around the world
● Allowed Britain to be more diverse
● Banned slavery in the 1800s
Grievances :
● British culture was forced onto the colonized whiles banning theirs
● Christianity was forced onto them
● They were treated like they weren't human and equated to dogs ( ’’Indians
and Dogs not allowed ’’)
● They stole their land and resources
● The conditions in the colonies were unbearable
● They brought diseases with them
● People ( colonized ) still face prejudice and discrimination
India:
● Drained all its wealth
● Let millions of Indians starve
● Stole their language
● Exploited their natural resources
● Divide and Conquer → Divided Indians along religious lines

Commonwealth of nations → A voluntary organization of former British colonies
